Leonardo's design of the parachute most like would work exactly as a parachute should. If falling from large heights, it would allow the person wearing it to slow down. This would prevent injury and in some cases death. However, the parachute that Leonardo invented was never actually built and even if it had been, it wouldn't have been much use because there was no way to get to large heights in his time.
