Name: St. John the Baptist
Size: 69 x 57 cm
Completion Date: 1516
Made of: oil paint on walnut wood
About:
St. John the Baptist was one of Leonardo's last paintings he ever made. His pointing upwards is a guesture that Jesus is coming, as well as his carrying of a cross. However, this painting is often ridiculed, saying that it looks too grim, and that St. John looks too womanish, with his long curly hair and feminine arm over his chest. As well as the familiar smile you may also see on Leonardo's "Mona Lisa."
