The aerial screw works much like a modern helicoptor and looks much like a giant pinwheel. The "blades" of the screw would turn faster and faster until they produced lift. In other words, air pressure would build underneath the blades until it pushes upward. In reality, Leonardo's invention would probably not have worked if built, but it certainly would look amazing in flight.
